Music and art have always walked together! Music fans have always taken pleasure in looking at the art of the album covers.
The pioneer
Alex Steinweiss, New Yorker, was an American graphic designer, considered the inventor of the cover disc.
When the young artist Steinweiss joined Columbia Records and was an artistic director in 1939, Alex changed the world of the album covers forever!
In the old days, the disc covers were made of card stock showing only the artist’s name. In 1939, Steinweiss had the idea of coloring and drawing the covers to be more attractive. In his 30-year career, Steinweiss designed more than 2 500 album covers.
He was the first to bring life to the best album covers

Many British band members in the 1960s, such as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd, had strong ties to the Faculties of Fine Arts, so they began charging their fellow contemporary artists to design their best covers.
It was at this time that Peter Blake, an English pop artist, became known for creating the Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.
Also created the cover of the single Band Aid “Do They Know It’s Christmas?”, And the poster of the Live Aid concert.
These changes have accompanied the music ever since. This was the glorious era of cover design, when record labels and musicians tried to impact with well-crafted packaging.
The double covers became famous even for beginning artists, in them were included posters that looked for to impress the fans.
